- One of the most important problems in biscuit sector which has been rapidly growing and has a great export potential in Turkey is that the quality of the flour which is the main raw material in biscuit and accordingly wheat is not suitable for standards. The studies on developing high yielding and high quality wheat demanded by biscuit sector have been going on in bread wheat breeding material in Transitional Zone Agricultural Research Institute since 2003. In this study, the yield and grain characteristics of the advanced material improved in the biscuit wheat breeding studies were evaluated and promising lines were determined in rainfed and irrigated conditions. The variation in the yield and grain characteristics was also investigated in both conditions. High kernel physical characteristics, pearling index and PSI hardness values and low protein content and SDS sedimentation values were obtained in irrigated condition. It was found that lines 3, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14 were promising with good cookie quality characteristics in rainfed and irrigated conditions. The yields of the lines 9, 11, 12 and 13 were better in both conditions. The yields of the lines 14 and 8 were high in irrigated condition but decreased in rainfed condition. The line 3 showed good yield performance only in rainfed condition. The selected lines were planted in 2009-2010 growing season again. After the further analysis the promising lines will be sent to Variety Registration and Seed Certification Center for registration. Keywords : Biscuit wheat, grain, breeding, quality, line
