Seedling Stage High Temperature and Drought Stress Susceptibility and Yield Relationships in Spring Bread Wheat

Bread wheat cultivars were grown conventional sowing time (CS) and late sowing time (LS) with rainfed (RF) and irrigated (IR) conditions (CSRF, CSIR, LSRF, LSIR). The aim of this study was to evaluate germination and seedling traits of 16 spring wheat genotypes and its relationships between grain yield. Germination was conducted under controlled condition with two stages. In the first stage, potential coleoptile length were determined on 7th day of germination in the dark and constant temperature (20°C) condition. The second germination stage were conducted with two temperature regime, control (20°C) and high temperature (30°C) with water regime, control (Ψs=0.0 Mpa) and drought stress (Ψs=- 0.6 Mpa) condition under 12 hours light/dark periods and 7 day duration. In this study, relationships between Heat Stress Index (HSIADN-IR) and Potential Coleoptile Length (PCL) was strongly releated (r=-0.551*). Negative correlations between germination ratio and Drougth Stress Index (DSIADN-CS) were observed under both control (r=-0.520*) and dry conditions (r=-0.568*). Germination ratio was positively correlated with DSIDYB-LS(r=0.523*) HSIDYB-IR (r=564*) and seedling length was positively correlated with DSIDYBCS( r=0.611*) and HSIDYB-IR(r=0.618*). Root dry weight was significantly correlated with DSIADN-CS (r=0.516*) and DSIADN-LS (r=-0.509*) in Adana and HSIDYB-RF(r=-0.525*) and HSIDYB-IR (r=-0.515*) in Diyarbakır conditions.
