DOI : 10.21566/tarbitderg.280351 - The study was conducted to select cold tolerant accessions of pea genotypes in the Middle Anatolia Region (Sivas) of Turkey. A total of 130 local genotypes and four commercial varieties were screened for cold tolerance. Accessions were evaluated by using a 1–5 scale. Five accessions of pea from İstanbul, Kars, Diyarbakır, Bolu and Sivas were highly cold tolerant and 13 accessions from Adıyaman, Elazığ, Kastamonu, Malatya, Sakarya, Tokat, Afyon, Bingöl, Konya, Karaman, Van, Hakkari ve Şırnak were cold tolerant. 7 accessions from Denizli, Edirne, Kırklareli, Manisa, Kahramanmaraş, Giresun, Ordu and 2 commercial varieties (Ulubatlı, Kirazlı) were intermediate (Some leaves, between 25 and 50%, were withered and then turned black by freezing but there was no plant killing). On the other hand, Karina and Jof commercial varieties were killed. The cold tolerant accessions of pea were superior to the best cultivar as far as hardiness is concerned.
