Green Manures and Fertilization in Terms of Soil Fertility

Erol KARAKURT

1 Tarla Bitkileri Merkez Araştırma Enstitüsü, Yenimahalle-Ankara - The Anatolian soils have been degraded and become less and less productive as a consequence of frequent tillage and cropping for centuries. The current agricultural systems have also more detrimental effects because they are based on numerous plowing and fertilizing with chemical compounds which are in fact a kind of salts. The sustainable cropping system should improve the physical, chemical and biological soil properties. The system consists of increasing soil organic matter and soil fertility and reduces the potential of soil erosion. Keywords : Soil tillage, green manure, organic matter
