PESTS of VEGETABLES and FEED CROPS and THEIR CONTROL METHODS

Pervin ERDOĞAN

1 Zirai Mücadele Merkez Araştırma Enstitüsü - In Turkey, which is an agriculture country, vegetable production has a very important role. Vegetables are produced nearly in each province in fields, greenhouses, and under plastics. Tomato, cucumber, bean, pepper, lettuce, spinach, onion and other vegetables are produced although the production areas and varieties used are changing. Especially protected vegetable production is increasing day by day.

Several pests cause quality and quantity losses during the vegetation period of vegetables. Especially pests like Agrotis spp.(Lep.:Noctuidae)mole cricket, Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say (Col.:.Chrysomelidae), Bruchus spp.,(Col.:Bruchidae) Spodoptera littoralis Boisd.(Lep.:Noctuidae), Bemicia tabacci Genn. (Hom.:Aleyrodidae), Aphids spp. (Hom.:Aphididae) and Tetranychus sp. (Acarina:Tetaranychidae), Liriomyza spp.(Dip.:Agromyzidae) and Thrips cause serious crop losses unless they are not controlled. The main damage of white flies, aphids and Thrips is that they are the vector of virus diseases and transfer the viral diseases fastly.

To control these pests successfully, it is necessary to have information about the identification and life cylcles of them. Keywords : Vegetables, protected, field, pests
