1 Tarla Bitkileri Merkez Araştırma Enstitüsü Müdürlüğü, Ankara - More and stability yielding are among main aim of lentil breeding. It need that winter lentil varieties are improved due to higher yield in winter planting than spring one. The aim of this study are developed winter lentil varieties which are more yield, good quality and suitable for mechanical harvested, adapted to Central Anatolia Region and Transitional Zone. This study was conducted between in 2002 and 2004. In the experiment, it used as materials which were come by introduction from abroad with segregation populations and advanced lines. Modify Bulk was used as breeding method. The segregation populations, nurseries, preliminary yield trials and yield trials were carried out in Haymana and also Regional yield trials were planted in Esenboğa. Winter hardiness score, days to flowering, yield kg/da, weight of 1000 seeds and plant height were observed in the lines within the trials. It was analyzed varyans in the trials.

In autumn- sown, the lines of winter red lentil were more 178.2 % yield than spring red variety Malazgirt 89 (check variety) whereas resistant to winter, green lines were more 57 % yield than spring green variety Erzurum 89 (check variety) in 2003. In autumn-sown of 2004, winter red lines, gave 103 % more yield than in Malazgirt 89, whereas 88.5 % more yield than Erzurum 89. The best winter red line was 10.8 % more yield, 36.7 % than the best winter check variety in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Differences among lines were statistically significant in winter yield trials.
