EFFECTS OF GIBBERELLIC ACID (GA3) ON AGRONOMIC TRAITS, FLOWER YIELD AND DYE CONTENT OF SAFFLOWER CULTIVARS

Saliha KIRICI

1 Ç.Ü. Ziraat Fakültesi Tarla Bitkileri Bölümü, Adana - Safflower`s flowers were used traditionally for flavouring foods, making dyes and treating some diseases. This study was conducted on the research areas of Field Crops Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Çukurova University, in 1997 and 1998 growing seasons in order to determine the effect of GA3 (0,50,100,150 ppm) on plant height, branch numbers of per plant, head nıımhers per plant, flower yield and flower dye content of some safflower cultivars at different growing periods (rosette and stem elongation) in low and upland conditions. lt was concluded that flower yields of safflower cultivars were increased by lower GA3 doses, lowland area was more sııitable for production of flowers and in generally, dye content of fIowers was increased by high GA3 applications. Keywords : Safflower; Gibberellic acid; flower yield; flower dye content
