EFFECTS OF LOW AND UPLAND CONDITIONS ON FLOWER YIELD AND DYE STUFF CONTENT OF SAFFLOWER CULTIVARS

- The red pigment obtained from florets of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is ıısed in traditional dyeing. The plant is also used as a herbal medicine. This stııdy was conducted on the research sites of Field Crops Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Çukurova University in 1994-95 and 1995-96 growing season in order to determine effects of low and upland conditions on flower yield, dye content, plant height, branch and lıead numbers per plant (Yenice. Dinçer and 5.154). The highest flower yield was obtained from Yenice cultivar in upland conditions and Dinçer cıtltivar in hnvland condiıions and the highest dye content was obtained from 5.154 cultivar in upland condition.
