1 Ankara Üniversitesi, Ziraat Fakültesi, Tarla Bitkileri Bölümü - Ankara - This research has been carried out at Etimesgut Station of Sugar Institute of Turkish Sugar Factories Company during 1991-1996. The aim of this study was to determine the differences of the yield and quality in selected monogerm single plants from F2 generation that was obtained by crossing monogerm lines from USA and France multigerm and local lines derived from Sugar Institute. Tota! 49 cultivars and lines (4 Standard cultivars and 45 lines) were used. According to the results; the highest root yield (6000 kg/da), sugar content (18.54 %), and sugar yield (804 kg/da) were determined in line 34, Fiona cultivar and line 15 respectively. The lowest sodium amount (1.14 meq/100 g), potassium amount (4.56 meq/I00 g) and a-amino nitrogen amount (1.99 meq/100 g) were determined in lines 33, 4 and 9 respectively. in contrast, the lowest root yield (2390 kg/da), sugar content (13.38 %), pure sugar content (8.70%) and pure sugar yield (317 kg/da) were found in lines 4, 41 respectively. in addition, the highest sodium amount (5.16 meq/100 g) and potassium amount (8.73 meq/100 g) and a-amino nitrogen amount (5.28 meq/100 g) were obtained from lines 46, 44 respectively. Keywords : Monogerm, multigerm, root yield, sugar content, pure sugar content, potassium amount, a-amino nitrogen amount, sodium amount
