RESEARCH ON THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT ENERGY LEVEL CONCENTRATED FEED MIXTURES ON FATTENING PERFORMANCE, SOME SLAUGHTER AND CARCASS CHARECTERISTICS OF HOLSTEIN BULLS FATTENED AT OPEN BARNS IN WINTER

- This research was carried out to determine the effects of concentrated feed mixtures with different energy levels (600, 650 and 700 Starch Equivalent) on fattening performance, some slaughter and carcass characteristics of Holstein bulls fattened at open barns of Central Research Institute for Field Crops, Ankara, in winter.

The concentrated feed mixtures were given to animal groups ad-libitum and straw was limited to 1 kg/ head/day. The initial and final live weights, total weight gains and average daily live weight gains and feed efficiency values of groups, during the fattening period were found as: 240.1, 455.6. 215.5. 1.184 and 7.88 kg for group I; 240.0, 465.7, 225.8, 1.240 and 7.48 kg for group II; 242.6, 463.4, 220.8, 1.213 and 7.76 kg for group III, respectively. The slaughter-house weights, dressing percentages (from cold carcass weight), abdominal and kidney-pelvic-cavity fat weights were determined as: 446.7 kg , 55.28 %, 2.94 kg and 3.35 kg; 452.3 kg, 56.08 %, 3.27 kg and 3.90 kg; 452.3 kg, 56.56 %, 3.09 kg and 4 03 kg, respectively.
