DETERMINATION OF CONTAMINATION POTENTIAL OF UNDERGROUND WATER BY SOME AGRICULTURAL CHEMICALS

Hüseyin KABAKÇI

1 Tarla Bitkileri Merkez Araştırma Enst. Md. Ankara - Chemical usage in agricultural production has been increased rapidly especially in last 40 years in the world as well as in Turkey. Although, chemical application has resulted in production increase, environment and human health are under the risk in the cases of wrong usage. Ground and underground contamination are major forms of negative impacts of chemicals through infiltration and runoff. Chemicals characteristics itself, soil and climate characteristics and farming practices are the factors to determine underground water contamination. In this study, contamination process is investigated and an contamination model is given. This model hopefully will helpful to select least hazardous chemical among other alternatives and/or to determine potential risk of contamination under given conditions and farming practices to chemical users.
