- The stimulation of cereal seeds previous to sowing and the effect of the stimulation on germination rate, plant height and root lenght were investigated by using 2 wheat and 2 barley cultivars. The stimulants used were KNO3 (2%), thiourea (2%), gibberellic acid and tap water. Germination rate is increased by KNO3, plant height by gibberellic acid and root lenght by KNO3 and thiourea. Stimulants increased the yield of barley cv. Zafer 160 only but not others. Keywords : Germination; chemical stimulants; gibberellic acid; thiourea
