INVESTIGATIONS ON THE EFFECTS OF ROLLING ON EMERGENCE AND SEEDLING AND DEVELOPMENT OF FORAGE CROPS
This experiment was carried out in the experimental field of Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ankara in 1993, to research the effects of rolling on the emergence and seedling development of Agropyron intermedium.
In this study that was established in the randomize blocks the following treatments were investigated;
Without rolling (check),
Rolling before seeding,
Rolling after seeding,
Rolling before and after seeding.
The results can be summarized as follows.
1. While there was no significant difference, between rolled and unrolled plots in expect to emergence, continuos and hard rains can compact the soil as if rolled.
2. Rolling in unnecessary for soils which has enough moisture in seeding time to compact the soil. This was done by rains.
3. There may be ei£ıcient, effects of rolling on soils which are dry and loose in seeding time.
4. Rolling may give more efficient results in sandy soils.
