Determination of Potential Suitability Areas of Switchgrass (Panicum Virgatum L.) As A Bioenergy Plant in Turkey By An Approach of Analytic Hierarchy Process and GIS

5 Tarım ve Orman Bakanlığı, Kütahya Tarım İl Müdürlüğü, Simav İlçe Müdürlüğü, Simav, Kütahya, Türkiye DOI : 10.21566/tarbitderg.581120 - In this study, it is aimed to produce the geographical layers of the switchgrass` parameters determined in accordance with the its ecological requirements and then to determine the dominant parameters with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in order to map the potential suitability areas of switchgrass plant by geographic Information system techniques. Daily average, minimum and maximum temperature climate data of 1970 to 2017 procured from Directorate General of Meteorology, digital soil maps produced by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and CORINE Land Cover for 2012 (Coordination of Information on the Environment, CLC 2012) dataset were used as input. Climate database prepared in Excel was used to produce Climate surface maps by `Thin Plate Smoothing Spline` interpolation method. The output maps were queried with switchgrass`s ecologic demands and meaningful parameters are selected as main layers. The daily average temperature produced in raster format, the number of cuttings of switchgrass for biomass estimation, soil depth and land use layers were reclassified. Thus, the layers were then divided into sub-layers and high scores were given to layers that are more suitable the ecological requirements of the switchgrass. The weights (W) of these layers were calculated with AHP method. Layers and their weights were analyzed with `Weighted Overlay Method` for suitability analysis through which the potential suitability of Switchgrass maps was created with 4 classes of most suitable, moderate suitable, fairly suitable and not suitable. The final map classes made by FAO (1976) classification system explains that there were 12% of most suitable (S1), 32% of moderately suitable (S2), 41% of fairly suitable and 14% of not suitable (N) regions of switchgrass in Turkey.
