The aim of this study was to determine the effect of zinc (Zn) application on yield and some quality traits
in seven durum wheat genotypes that commonly grown in Southeast Anatolia Region, Turkey. The study was
conducted in full irrigation condition in 2013-14 and 2014-15 growing seasons at experimental area of
Vocational Scholl of Kızıltepe, Mardin. Experiments were designed in a randomized complete block design
with three replications. The mean grain yield for zinc fertilize (+Zn) and unfertilized (-Zn) ranged from 742 to
693 kg/da in first year, and from 751 to 659 kg/da in second year. According to analysis of variance, highly
significant differences (P<0.05 or P<0.01) were determined for number seed per spike, vitreous,
sedimentation value, protein content and wet gluten in first year and for grain yield, spike weight, vitreous,
sedimentation value, protein content and weight gluten in second year. Genotypes showed different
responses in zinc application and control plots. The results showed that zinc application increased grain yield
and all quality traits compared with control in both years. The most grain yield increasing observed in G1 for
first year and in G3, G5 for second year with zinc fertilize. The highest increasing value for vitreous was given
by G3 and G4 in first year, while G2 and G5 in second year. The most increasing for protein content was
determined in G7 in first year and G6 in second year. Application of zinc increased SDS sedimentation value
for all genotypes except G6 in first year and G2 in second year, while zinc fertilize didn`t significant effect on
semolina color (b) for both years. This study showed that using of zinc fertilize may contribute to increase
yield and quality in irrigated condition of the Southeast Region, Turkey.
